The Most Effective Tips for Deep Cleaning Your Bathroom

Every corner of your house requires regular cleaning as well as deep cleaning every now and then, but when it comes to the bathroom, it needs deep cleaning more often than any other room. Everything in your bathroom, from your bathtub to your soap, has a range of harmful bacteria, and the only way to minimise the risk of diseases and infections from these bacteria is to ensure deep cleaning of your bathroom. No matter how clean and tidy your bathroom seems, it is still home to all sorts of germs, dirt and grime. Here are some effective deep cleanings tips for making your bathrooms sparkling clean like professionals.

1. Remove everything from the floor and shelves

Your bathroom might seem clean and clear, but when you look closely, it is filled with extra stuff that takes up space. Therefore, before you start deep cleaning your bathroom, you need to start with de-cluttering.

First, remove all the things from the floor, cabinets and your products from your surfaces. Put all your products in one basket to sort later. Next, take your bath mat and clean it following the instructions given on the tag. Most mats are washable through the washer, so you can run it through the cool cycle and hang it to dry. Wash all your bath and hand towels before you start cleaning your bathroom. Open windows before you start with the cleaning process to improve ventilation.

2. De-clutter

Once all the surfaces are empty, check the boxes of items you removed from your bathroom, and analyse each item to separate the ones required and the ones that need to be replaced. This way, you will get rid of plenty of stuff not usually needed in the bathroom.

3. Vacuum all the surfaces

Take a duster with a long handle to remove cobwebs in the corners and vents, and once you are done, start vacuuming the floor and all the surfaces to pick up all the hair, debris and dust accumulated on the floors, around the toilet, under the vanity and the bathmats.

4. Wipe down surfaces

Spray all-purpose cleaner on a microfibre cloth and scrub down every surface to clean the buildup. Don’t forget to scrub your handles, door knobs, mirrors, vanity, sinks, cabinet doors, walls, shower and windows.

Note: Removing water stains is the hardest part of deep cleaning your bathrooms. The easiest home remedy to remove water stains is mixing white vinegar, baking soda and water. The acidic properties of vinegar will help to break down mineral deposits, and baking soda will dissolve the stains making them easily removable. Gently apply this mixture with a microfibre cloth or sponge on the areas with water stains, leave it for a while and let it do the magic. After a while, rinse off with water and dry it out with a microfibre cloth.

5. Clean toilet

Put toilet cleaner and leave it for a while or follow instructions given on the cleaner. After a while, scrub the toilet to clean the buildup and flush it. If you still see buildup repeat the process. Once the inside of the toilet is all clean, spray an all-purpose cleaner on the outside of the toilet and wipe it.

Every time you clean your toilet, clean the toilet brush as well and spray it with disinfectant.

6. Clean glass shower doors

Deep cleaning your bathroom means you cannot ignore any area which is often overlooked during regular cleaning. Use glass cleaner to clean the glass shower doors, and a micro-fibre cloth to wipe off the stains and dust.

Additional tip: If you want sparkling clean shower glass and doors, mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in the spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the glass, covering it all, and then gently wipe it off with a cotton or microfibre cloth.

7. Disinfect

After you finish cleaning all the surfaces and corners of the bathroom, use any commercial disinfectant spray or liquid to sweep. You can make your own cleaning solution at home by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water and spraying it on surfaces using a spray bottle, the same as you use for cleaning glass doors. Spray it on all surfaces, leave it for 15 minutes and wipe it away with a microfibre cloth. It will not only remove germs and bacteria but also make your bathroom shine like new.
